A Little Art History

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

Did your eyes light up with joy at first glance at the page above, thinking “Ah, new comics”? And then, upon reading, think “Hey, what’s this crap”? Well, I figured it would be nice to demonstrate the Chicken of Wrath’s evolution; the above page is from one of his first stories, “The Real Awful Terror of Boogog,” which appeared in Fantagraphics’ Critters many moons ago. (In it, we also saw Skip Squirrelhard’s first appearance. He took the gig to pay the bills, he doesn’t like to discuss it.) Anyway, I later redrew the story for prospective publication in a tabloid, full-color comic that sadly, never came to fruition. You can see the redrawn and rearranged page by clicking the thumbnail below… use browser’s “back” button to return:

Boogog_A

And here is the next page of the original version:

critters_boogog_B

And here’s the redrawn version:

Boogog_B

Now isn’t that just as good as new comics? No? Well… hmph!

I think another video featuring a vintage science fiction TV show crossed with Monty Python would be swell, don’t you? Here’s “Blake’s 7 vs. Monty Python”!

And howabout some creepy alien robot zombie things? Here’s a short clip from “The Earth Dies Screaming”… also British, by the way:

Aaaaand a little more space monster stuff? You got it: the trailer from the 1965 classic “Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster”!
