Walt’s Brain: Should auld acquaintance be forgot?
Sunday, August 31st, 2008Hey, it’s a bad guy from Fish’s past, and he didn’t recognize him! It’s the new duds… clothes make the man! (Having made this appearance, Arnie will no longer appear in this story.)
Believe it or not, there have been chicken-based villains. Who can forget the epic battle between the Flaming Carrot and Mr. Chicken Pants in The Flaming Carrot #31? In the same issue, the Carrot also encountered the lollipop-slinging Herbie Popnecker! Honest. You can read more about it at Brian Hughes’s blog Again With The Comics!

Say, this guy doesn’t look like a chicken… well of course not, it’s the astounding Underdog featured on his own record from way back. Saw this and many other great record covers at LP Cover Lover!

Also from LP Cover Lover: The Banana Splits. You can find out more about this immortal band’s revival at www.bananasplits.com! (Flash site.)

Here’s a trailer from one of the all-time classic films: The Abominable Dr. Phibes! (1971) Starring Vincent Price, of course.
And here’s one from an earlier horror with Price: House of Wax (1953)… which was released in 3D, necessitating the use of cardboard-framed filter eyeglasses. I saw this in a theater during a revival; it really startled me when Charles Bronson jumped up from the dark foreground at one point. This trailer is pretty funny in that it ballyhoos the 3D process so much, the movie itself is hardly mentioned. They don’t even show any scenes!
And now let’s finish with something really scary: a clown! This is a 1972 clip of the Canadian Patof, the King of Clowns… I don’t know anything about him, but this wiggy, spaced-out musical number seems to be taking place in children’s Hell; dig those psychedelic FX! And what’s with those negative-image posters the kids are holding up?!
