For the Video Goodie this week, here’s something that really should have gone with last week’s Star Bunny Trek post. It’s the swell science fiction comedy Galaxy Quest (1999)! It’s down below the banners.

He might be a scary-lookin’ guy, but Spook there sure has excellent taste in t-shirts! The above panel is from Adam Black’s LOCUS webcomic (which features the title character and her struggles in long-standing feuds of demons and vampires)… turns out that Mr. Black is a Fission Chicken fan from way back, and took this opportunity to give Spook a snazzy FC shirt! I should’ve posted this one last week. Oh well, Galaxy Quest (1999) is still a darn funny, well-done movie that has come up for another look in this Summer of the Star Trek reboot. Ever hear the one about the former stars of an awfully ST-like show that have grown bitter over the fact that they really can’t get any more acting work? And that they resent the vainglorious actor who played the captain? And then they’re approached by weird-looking fans who ask them to battle a horrible conqueror, only these fans are actually real aliens who think the Galaxy Quest episodes were “historical documents”? And then the show’s actors find themselves on a functioning spaceship, fighting for their lives? Have you heard that one? If you think you’ve seen some politically incorrect cartoons on TV recently, check out this old theatrical cartoon from 1958: Chew Chew Baby (even the title is kind of suggestive)… wherein some guy who seems like Mr. Magoo’s loudmouth cousin gets a visit from a shark-toothed pygmy with a bone in his hair. Guess what the little guy’s main source of nourishment is. I saw this on the Cartoon Brew site, and you can read more about it here! Here’s the cartoon:
