Let’s look at some more monster horror chiller stuff! Here are scenes with the animated beasties from Jack the Giant Killer (1962). This fun kid’s adventure was made after the Schneer/Harryhausen film Seventh Voyage of Sinbad was a hit. Producer Edward Small had passed on that movie, and ended up kicking himself for it. So he made his own adventure flick with Seventh Voyage’s director (Nathan Juran), hero (Kerwin Matthews) and bad guy (Torin Thatcher). The stop-motion critters are early work of Jim Danforth. Here’s Comoran abducting the princess, and soon thereafter fighting Jack:

Here’s two-headed Galligantua fighting a sea monster. The sea monster is supposed to be “good,” so I guess that’s why it’s friendly-looking:

There was this cool weird British science fiction kidvid early 1960s show, Space Patrol (called Planet Patrol in the US because there had already been a show with the name “Space Patrol”)… featuring the Galasphere ship that made a distinctive sound, marionette characters, some strange aliens, and some electronic music that was ahead of its time. Here’s a clip of an episode; you can find out more at Space Patrol - The Website.

One of my favorite horror films is the 1973 classic The Creeping Flesh with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Here’s the part where the monster shows up!

And while we’re on the subject of classic horror, here’s the the trailer from the great Horror of Dracula (1958)… perhaps the greatest Dracula movie ever. Starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. Lee’s Dracula was no wimpy Anne Rice art-gang sissy vampire; he was a real no-nonsense fella!

(By the way… one improvement I plan for this site involves placing all the stories in their own section, thus enabling the reader to read the tales more easily… without all the random stuff you might encounter in the archives! Clever, eh?)

It’s about time we had another vintage science fiction movie trailer! Journey to the Seventh Planet! 1962! With John Agar! Directed by Sidney W.Pink!

How ’bout some classic science fiction TV? Captain Scarlet! (Captain Scarlet!) This 1967 series from Sylvia and Gerry Anderson and Reg Hill starred a hero who could come back from the dead, thanks to the power of “retro-metabolism”! Part 1 of the intro episode:

Boy… that “retro-metabolism” must work pretty good — Captain Scarlet falls like a mile to the ground, and he recovers! (They say it’s 800 feet, but it looks like a mile… ol’ CS must’ve been pretty smooshed-up when he hit the pavement. They probably had to pry him out of his crater!)
